New CEO at Westminster Canterbury, Lynchburg
Westminster Canterbury names Sean M. Huyett, President and CEO
(Lynchburg, Virginia 3/2010)
Sean M. Huyett has been named President & CEO of Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg.
Huyett succeeds Hunsdon "H" Cary III, who has retired after more than 33 years as President and CEO of the 475-resident,
not-for-profit, faith-based continuing care retirement community on V.E.S. Road.
A Virginia native, Huyett joins Westminster Canterbury from his position as Executive Director of Presbyterian Homes, Glenaire, a 332-unit, nonprofit continuing care community in Cary, N.C. Westminster Canterbury Board Chairman Skip Lamb said, "Sean Huyett has both the education and experience we are looking for in a new leader. He is personable, energetic, and his management style is to lead by example. We feel confident he will be well-received in the Westminster Canterbury community and greater Lynchburg."
"I look forward to working with Westminster Canterbury's dedicated Board of Trustees and excellent management team put together by 'H' Cary," Huyett said. "Together we will move Westminster Canterbury to the next generation of retirement services while maintaining the long-standing traditions of excellence that have made Westminster Canterbury the leading retirement community in central Virginia.
"My wife, Leigh, and our two children, Luke and Joy, look forward to making Lynchburg our home and the residents, staff and board of Westminster Canterbury our friends," he said.
Huyett has more than 16 years experience in nonprofit and for-profit retirement community and nursing home management.
He holds a bachelor of science degree in health services administration and gerontology and a master's degree in business administration, both from James Madison University.
Cary's career at Westminster Canterbury began in 1976 when the idea for a continuing care retirement community was conceived by area Episcopalians and Presbyterians. He has been responsible for leading the growth and development of the retirement community since then. "My desire to serve the citizens of Lynchburg by running for City Council this Spring made the timing right to turn over the reins of Westminster Canterbury to a new generation of leadership", said Cary.
According to Charlotte Fischer, Resident Council Chair, "Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg is fortunate that 'H' Cary's leadership left us with a strong, healthy organization."
Skip Lamb, Chairman of the Board, added, "'H' Cary has provided excellent vision and leadership for Westminster Canterbury for more than 30 years and he has contributed greatly to the outstanding reputation that Westminster Canterbury has enjoyed throughout Virginia. We wish him well in his retirement. We look forward to welcoming our new President & CEO, Sean Huyett, who brings with him the credentials that will enable him to help Westminster Canterbury continue to grow in its role as an outstanding LifeCare community."
