Westminster Canterbury Celebrates 30 Years of Excellence in Retirement Living

Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg celebrated 30 years as Central Virginia’s premier continuing care retirement community with a celebration featuring Mayor Joan Foster, newly appointed CEO Sean Huyett, original board members, trustees and staff speaking to a crowd of over 300 people gathered on the Bridge of Westminster Canterbury located at 501 VES Road.
Following the Mayor’s reading of a proclamation declaring July 14 Westminster Canterbury day in Lynchburg, VA, Huyett welcomed guests and introduced speakers. Old Dominion Box Company CEO Frank Buhler, Westminster Canterbury’s first board chairman, described the development and construction of the original campus in 1979-1980. Retired Roanoke business executive and former board member Calvin Johnson made a presentation on the major campus upgrades completed in the 1990s and 2004. Other speakers included retired hospital administrator Lester L. (Skip) Lamb, board chairman; Lynchburg businessman J. Robert (Bobby) Montgomery, board vice-chairman; and retired trust officer Charlotte Fischer, Resident Council chairperson and former Westminster Canterbury board member.
