40 years ago, our beautiful story began...
Since our doors opened in 1980, and the first residents found their way to the Westminster Canterbury campus, our goal has always been to provide independence, dignity, quality housing and healthcare services to each of our residents.
Over time, our 42-acre campus has continued to evolve, including the addition of our cottage community and most recently, opening our new Drinkard Healthcare Center.
For 40 years we have been able to care for our many residents as they open the door to the next part of life’s journey and call Westminster Canterbury home.
For some, we have been a place for recreation, conversation and enjoyment—for others, a place of peace. Our community is full of people who care about each other and staff members that have become a part of their family.
Our vision is to provide a lifestyle that allows those who come to Westminster Canterbury to leave their cares behind and live life to the fullest. We look forward to the next 40 years as we strive to provide a person-centered quality of life to all who call Westminster Canterbury home.

1980
Original apartments and healthcare facility opens July 14.
1992
Hearthside Assisted Living opens in April.
1998
36 Cottages constructed.
2001
Newly constructed Wellness Center features resident clinic, classroom, indoor swimming pool, locker rooms and exercise area.
2002
Groundbreaking for “Project 2002” to add a 14-bed memory support unit and 41 Woods Edge apartments which open the next year.
2005
Pigeon Creek Nature Trail established.
2007
Westminster Canterbury Lynchburg Foundation organized.
2009
James River Grille opens.
2010
Senior Independence Home Health Services are launched; Hospice follows in 2015.
2014
Organization embarks upon culture change initiative for Person Centered Care service delivery model.
2017
37th Anniversary marked with groundbreaking ceremony for new 84-bed Healthcare Center under Mission 2020 Capital Campaign.
2018
Renovation begins for all dining venues on 3rd floor, Drinkard Building lobby and Wellness Center. Resident Clinic, Beauty/Barber Salon and Templeton Wellness Center reopen in February 2019.
2019
Dedication and blessing ceremony for new Drinkard Healthcare Center, June 25. Residents move into private rooms in Drinkard Center, July 17.

Westminster Canterbury celebrates 40 years of operation!
